The Ardmore City Commission had plenty of agenda items to consider Monday after dangerous winter weather last month caused city leaders to cancel a regular meeting last month. Despite the delay, commissioners moved quickly through the agenda that saw changes approved for some roads within the city.
Among items approved by the commission was the awarding of a nearly $443,000 bid for the Michelin Road bridge rehabilitation project. The bid from Broken Bow-based Impact Contractors, LLC, was one of only two bids received by the city and was the only bid lower than the $500,000 estimate by city engineers.
Interim City Engineer Michael Edge told commissioners that the primary focus of the rehab project will be the bridge’s prestressed concrete girders and diaphragms.
The commission also approved a recommended change to speed limits along US Highway 70 near Interstate 35 and US Highway 77. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation proposed the changes to about 3.5 miles of the federal highway just east of the interstate after engineering studies on that section of road.
Where speed limits gradually increased for eastbound drivers from 55 mph to 70 mph over the course of about 1.5 miles, the approved changes now see the speed limit on US-70 lowered to 65 mph between US-70 and Lake Murray Drive South. The new speed limit is not increased to 70 mph until about one-half mile east of Lake Murray Drive South.
