LONE GROVE – After talking to City Manager Ian O’Neal on Tuesday, January. 22, it is clear that all five wards in Lone Grove are not defined due to a recent deannexation of land by the City Council. O’Neal said the ward boundaries are drawn according to population which has not yet been determined and they will not be drawn until sometime after the filing period.
The filing period for those interested in serving on the Lone Grove City Council, Wards 3 and 5, is Monday, February. 3 through Wednesday, February. 5, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, at the Carter County Election Board, 25 A Street NW, in Ardmore.
At this time, Ward 3 is vacant. A ward map is available for viewing at city hall, but those planning to file should be aware that the boundaries could change significantly. Before the deannexation, Ward 3 included the area which lies one-fourth mile north of Timber Road on the south boundary, to Brock Road on the east boundary, with Young Road defining the west boundary to Willow Street on the north side.
Incumbent Mickey Davis has held the Ward 5 seat for many years. That ward was defined by Texaco Road on the west, to 1/4 mile north of Prairie Valley Road, east to Meridian Lane and back to Young Road.
While the description should give interested residents of Lone Grove the previous Ward 3 and 5 descriptions, if you file to run for either of these seats, keep in mind when the wards are redrawn boundaries will change.
While the filing period is February 3 through 5, election day is Tuesday, April 1.
On another note, the Lone Grove Water and Sewerage Trust Authority and City Council met Monday, January 21, in regular sessions.
During the trust authority meeting, according to O’Neal, it was approved for all water payroll to be handled through direct deposits. It was further decided to secure financing for the purchase of the Hockersmith water well and one acre of land with easement. The Hockersmith well has been in the Lone Grove water system for several years. The cost of the well and land with easement is $337,650.
The agenda for the city council meeting was also brief. Councillors voted to approve all city payroll be handled through direct deposits. Councilors then entered into executive session for the purpose of communication with the city attorney concerning a pending legal action. O’Neal said there was nothing to reveal regarding this agenda item since no legal action in this matter has been taken against the city, to date.
