The lone bid for repairs on the east side of the Plainview schools’ track and field facility was approved by the school board as the site prepares to host a state track meet later this year. A similar schedule to the current school year is also in place for next year after the board unanimously approved several items during their regular meeting on Monday.
“There is a portion right outside the fence near the [football field’s] east gate, on the corner, that we cannot keep grass growing in and we’d like to just go ahead and turf that portion,” Plainview Public Schools Superintendent Karl Stricker told board members during their regular meeting on Monday. “We would use that for a staging area and keep feet clean going onto that track.”
The bid from TGS Sports included $20,800 for the installation of turf and another $14,100 for cleaning and painting of the track ahead of the OSSAA Class 3A and 4A state high school track meet, which will be held at Plainview High School for two days beginning May 9. The bid included a March deadline to complete the work.
“If we do get rain during the meet, that’s going to be a mess so we’d like to go ahead and take care of that,” Stricker said. “We want to use that as our staging gate. We’ll just set up a tent and have the kids all right there.”
The board also approved a calendar for the 2025-2026 school year which is nearly identical to the current year. Stricker said a school calendar committee developed two calendars and ultimately recommended a calendar with few variations. “You can see that calendar there, really similar to this year’s calendar,” he said.
