WILSON – Updates to the city’s water tower will have to wait several more weeks after council members only received a single bid, but councilors did move forward with actions on the senior citizens center’s van and foundation repairs.

The lone bid to repaint the aging water tower topped $49,000, which prompted discussion among council to solicit more bids. The council agreed to table any decision on the tower or bid until at least December.

The council on Thursday, Oct. 27, approved a single bid to sell the senior citizen center’s bus for $4,500. The bid, from the Wilson First Baptist Church, was the only bid submitted. Mayor Frank Schaaf told council that a replacement vehicle for the senior citizen’s center will likely be a used vehicle.

Council also approved advertising for bids to repair the foundation at the senior citizen’s center. Schaaf told council that previous efforts to repair a section of sinking floor have not been successful and would have to be removed.

Among other items, the Wilson City Council:

• received an update on and approved the city’s insurance policies;
• approved abatements for three properties on Ash Street;
• approved abatements for properties on Hugo Street and Hewitt Road;
• approved abatements for six properties on Idlewood Circle.
