Local municipal and school board elections are underway across Oklahoma with early voting on Thursday and Friday. Voters in five Carter County towns and school districts can still head to the polls on Tuesday, April 4 to cast ballots in local races.
Springer
With the only proposition on Carter County ballots, Springer voters will vote yes or no on a single ballot measure to decide if the town clerk will be appointed by the mayor with approval from trustees. Currently the position is elected by voters.
Healdton
Voters in Healdton have two council races to decide. The first is the at-large council seat, a three-way race between Matthew Choate, Jeff Shugart, and Rick Pender. The second race is for the unexpired term for the Ward 1 seat between Mary Frances Emberling and Randy Welch.
Wilson
Some voters in Wilson will have two races to decide. The first race for city council Ward 3 will be between Juanita Segroves and Mark Idleman, while the other race for those in the Wilson Public Schools district will decide who will take the board of education seat 3 between Dana Minyard and Jason Bates. Not all Wilson voters will receive both ballots.
Dickson
Voters in the Dickson Public Schools district will fill the unexpired term for the board of education’s seat 5 between Courtney Jones Scruggs and Alyssa Allen.
Velma-Alma School District
Voters in the Velma-Alma Public Schools district will have two seats on the board of education to fill. The first race for seat 3 is between B.J. Chapman and Kyle Firestone, while the second race to fill the unexpired term for seat 1 is between Chance Jenkins and Jason Bartling.
Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at local polling precincts.
